Lisbon is seriously old, only second in being the oldest capital city to Athens.

25 April 1974. The Carnation Revolution was a military coup that overthrew the authoritarian Estado Novo government. It resulted in the Portuguese transition to democracy and the end of the Portuguese Colonial War. Almost no shots were fired and demonstrators placed carnations in the muzzles of guns and on soldiers’ uniforms. 25 April is a national holiday, Dia da Liberdade, Freedom Day.

Founded in 1732 Livraria Bertrand – Chiado is the oldest operating bookstore (Guiness World Records). A fine December day for selling some books in the alley beside.
